Legal Matters

I am happy to accept instructions in both privately-funded and legally-aided matters.

Following instruction, an agreed hourly rate plus VAT will be charged for the time taken in respect of all clinical work as well as reading of reports and preparation of written reports as requested. There is a minimum fee of £275 plus VAT for any instruction.

Court attendance and preparation time is charged at the agreed hourly rate plus VAT, to include all time away from the practice. Where a Court hearing is more than 25 miles from our main surgery (in Ellesmere, Shropshire) there is a minimum Court attendance fee of £400 plus VAT.

Visits to premises less than 25 miles from the practice are charged according to our standard visit rates. Visits to premises over 25 miles are charged mileage at 44p per mile plus time spent travelling which is charged at an agreed rate. Other out of pocket expenses (travel, parking, hotels, research library fees etc) are charged at cost, subject to receipts which will be provided. Laboratory costs incurred in relation to the case are charged as per the invoice to the practice.

Once requested to attend Court or a hearing and dates have been booked, a cancellation fee will be charged at the following rate:

75% of the minimum Court attendance rate if less than 48 hours.

25% of the minimum Court attendance rate if less than 7 days

Payment of fees:

Our payment terms are 30 days from invoice date. Invoices will be typically issued on a monthly basis although we reserve the right to issue interim invoices in respect of charges made to the practice by a third party organisation in respect of the case (e.g. laboratory fees).
